April 21 – 24, 2016 marks the 10 Year Anniversary of the Mane Event, Equine Education and Trade Fair at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alberta. With an outstanding line-up of clinicians; great trade show vendors; the new Pro-Am Competition on Thursday night; the Friday and Saturday night Equine Experiences and the very popular Trainers Challenge (expanded to 4 days, 4 trainers and 4 judges) there is something for almost every equine enthusiast at this year’s expo.
The line-up of trainers and clinicians this year includes…
…also one of the top Eventing trainers and Olympian, Jim Wofford; Jumping competitor Candice King; Belinda Trussell, who has represented Canada in Dressage at the Olympics and the WEG Games; David Marcus, who represented Canada at the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2014 Alltech FEI World Equestrian; former Alberta native Molly Powell will be presenting Barrel Racing sessions plus more crowd favourites Dana Hokana; Steve Rother; Patrick King and Doug Mills. There are also some favourite presenters who will be doing sessions at the expo this year – Marijke van de Water from Riva’s Remedies; Jochen Schleese from Schleese Saddlery; Danny Kroetch from DK Saddlery; plus presentations from Equi-Health; the Western Canadian Farrier Association; Buckeye Nutrition, Feedstore-to-your Door; Brigitte Meyer from Vitality Equine and many more.
A new feature for the show this year is the Pro Am Competition, which will see six teams made up of one youth and one clinician competing in a timed relay trail competition. The trail course will feature some interesting obstacles as the trainers navigate the course on the youth’s horse, the youth will complete the first section of the course with the easier obstacles while the trainers are challenged to finish the pattern in record time.
The Trainers Challenge will see four trainers teamed up with four un-broken two year olds fillies, the objective is to teach the crowd a portion of their usual training program. We are pleased to see four crowd favourites Doug Mills, Steve Rother, Scott Purdum and Patrick King all returning to showcase their talents against a tough group of fillies from Ace of Clubs Quarter Horses. The challenge will run over all four days with the finals going on Sunday afternoon in the Arena. This is sure to be one Trainers Challenge you will not want to miss!
The Mane Event and Rocking Heart Ranch are pleased to team up again for the second annual Youth Essay Contest where the winning author of the essay will win a gorgeous blue roan filly. RHR Hancocks Drifter is intensely bred with the blood of Joe Hancock and Driftwood, the proven and much sought after “one-two” combination of performance genetics. This gentle little filly is fully halter trained and on a standard deworming program.
